Elbe Engineering has designed a differential case mounting cover for the Mercedes-Benz model 190 (W201), to be used with 185 mm (so-called nominal size) differential.
Differential case mounting covers vary by model. The cover is milled from 7075 aluminum alloy billet and is currently anodized golden. In the future, anodizing tones will be silver, black and dark gray. The cover is equipped with an o-ring seal.
The reason for creating this product is the shortage of original covers on the market. This happens because only a few MB W201 models were fitted with 185 mm differentials. These include 2.3-16 and 2.5-16 models, and also cars equipped with ASD.
On most W201 models, smaller non-locking differentials of 168 mm were used. It is no longer possible to buy a NOS part. Also the used ones are becoming continually rarer on the aftermarket, because W201 is an old model and many of them have been discarded.
On the other hand, the MB W201 as a youngtimer is gaining popularity among hobbyists, who are looking for 185 mm differentials that can be obtained with limited slip (LSD / ASD). But 185 mm ASD differentials are widely used on W124 models, and these can be used on the W201 with a specific mounting cover like that of Elbe Engineering’s.
Not only is our cover precisely manufactured and has good looks, but also allows installation of cooling fins. The fins help cool the oil in the differential case. They are especially necessary when the car is occasionally used on a race track.
On our cover, the place for attachment of cooling fins is already provided. The fins can be mounted after installation of the cover on the differential case.
In the near future, our web shop will also offer differential cover cooling fins.
